Leith Road Reno
Home Reno Marathon Project | Macleod, Vic
I know I’m not the only one who has purchased their first home in need of a little TLC (or a lot, as the case may be). Right from the get-go we loved some of the beautiful features and actually had a simple vision for turning the house into our home. As we had to do it on a budget, we managed the renovation over 5 years (actually we’re still going) and in various stages when our cashflow allowed us to do more work.
I worked within the realms of affordability and was conscious not to over capitalise, sit within the local Planning Regulations and minimising waste to landfill. Keeping the refurbishment works within the home’s existing footprint was key!
When we decided to renovate our modest home, the focus was to enhance the key areas of liveability to suit our growing family, add value and share the process.
STAGES OF OUR RENOVATION
Stage 1 - We gutted the kitchen and laundry and modified the space in the huge laundry sewing room to Bedroom 3. We created a temporary laundry and refurbished to create a new kitchen, study and ensuite and we painted internally. We demolished internal robes and carpeted the bedrooms We contemplated the bathroom made a start and then abandoned it! Too tricky, design not completed, and funds were low, low, low.
Stage 2 - We focused on landscaping and the living room doors. We replaced our existing large windows with French doors on the North and West sides of the living room and wrapped a new deck around the area. We built up the crushed rock, built a new front fence and created a new lawn area. We put in curtains in the living rooms only and new plantation shutters in the kitchen.
Stage 3 - We painted the outdoor of the home which was so satisfying! Then we moved back internally to create more storage in the home and finished the spaces with curtains, we added in new Bult in robes that are full height in the bedrooms, add in in a open shelving unit in the living room with full length drawers for all the toy storage we now needed! We revamped my Master with new lush warm sheer curtains and roller blinds and added in sheers to my home office. New furniture and new bedhead started to make me feel like we were at the finish line.
Stage 4 - What’s next? The laundry and the back garden! I cannot wait.

I enhanced our 3 bedroom, one bathroom home by modifying the spaces and adding an ensuite to the master bedroom, created a study and refurbished the internals of the home without needing to extend the footprint.
